“Planning out abjection? The role of the planning profession in post-apartheid South Africa”
IUR postdoctoral researcher Lorena Melgaço Silva Marques, together with co-authors Phil Jones, Lauren Anders, and Stuart Denoon-Stevens, published a new article in Planning Theory titled “Planning out abjection? The role of the planning profession in post-apartheid South Africa.”
In the article, departing from Kristeva’s work on abjection, the authors examine the changing landscape of the planning profession in post-apartheid South Africa to discuss how abjection continues to shape socio-spatial inequalities, shifting from overtly open racism towards the stigmatisation of the poor.
