Lorena Melgaço Silva Marques
- Postdoctoral Researcher
I am a Brazilian researcher working on the interface between socio-spatial practices, urban planning and technological development. My PhD, conducted at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2016), Brazil, investigated the interrelationship between socio-spatial practices and the late introduction of the internet in marginalised communities in Brazil and in the UK. Now, at the Institute of Urban Research at Malmö University, I will develop the project ‘Epistemic dialogues South-North: decolonising the smart city agenda’. My fields of interest also include ‘ bottom-bottom spatial practices’, i.e. the understanding of forms of local agency within a global framework, and their relation to the production of space; planning education in the global South; the decolonial turn in planning; and smart cities.
