Planning from Precarity: Challenges in planning for sustainable and inclusive cities

Adriana de La Peña Espinosa Workshops global South, urban planning, urban studies

Last week, Hoai Anh and Stephen Marr hosted a workshop titled Planning from Precarity: Challenges in planning for sustainable and inclusive cities.

The project aimed at identifying infrastructure-making practices by marginalized urban dwellers in selected cities in the Global South to develop recommendations for sustainable infrastructure planning and management in municipalities of the Global North. By doing so, the project foregrounded alternative frameworks in infrastructure planning on behalf of achieving just and sustainable cities (SDG 11). In particular, it aimed to highlight a) the key lessons that might be learned from the urban Global South and b) how to effectively translate these lessons into established policy and planning discourses in the Global North.
