Jonas Alwall

I am a senior lecturer in International Migration and Ethnic Relations and a sociologist with a background in religious studies. My research focuses on cultural and religious diversity and integration, but also on things that stir tensions in the urban environment, such as racism, inequality, and segregation. I study multicultural and socioeconomically vulnerable areas in the city and represent Malmö University in the Kraftsamling Herrgården collaboration, which aims to develop Malmö’s most vulnerable housing district. Moreover, my research extends to understanding the broad role of culture in urban life and development, highlighting how cultural elements shape and influence the urban environment. As a teacher, I coordinate the master’s programme Culture and Change – Critical Studies in the Humanities, where I also teach about the place of culture in the city and supervise and examine master’s theses.
