Meet Helena Fernandez-Cavada: IUR artist in residence 2024.

Helena Fernández-Cavada is a visual artist currently based in Malmö, Sweden. Her artistic practice engages with the challenges of living in an interdependent world. For the past three years, her work has been focused on how art can contribute to public health, exploring how visual landscapes can relate to the public and facilitate a space for existential well-being.

She has exhibited widely both in Europe and the Americas, including venues such as Marabouparken Konsthalle (SE), Centro de Arte de Alcoy (ES), Ystads Konstmuseum (SE), Krognoshuset (SE), Matadero Madrid (ES), Galeria Arroniz (MX), Museumsbygningen (DE), Casa Encendida (ES), Museo del Chopo (MX), and Desiré Saint Phalle (MX), among others. With six artist publications to her name, launched at institutions like Moderna Museet (SE), Lunds Konsthall (SE), Museo Amparo (MX), Inter Arts Center (SE), Museo Carrillo Gil (MX), PS1 Art Book Fair (US), and Salon für Kunstbuch. 21er Haus (AUT), she has demonstrated a commitment to publishing as an artistic field. Additionally, her work have been supported by grants and stipends from Konstnärsnämnden, Malmö Konstmuseum, ABF Kultural fond, and the National Council for Culture and Arts of Mexico, among others. Fernández-Cavada is also involved in participatory projects and education. She has lectured and conducted workshops at art schools and universities such as the Royal Academy in Copenhagen, as well as in various community spaces and folkhögskolor. At present, she is a member of the board of Konstnärscentrum Syd.
