Professor Stig Westerdahl published a critique about the Swedish housing system’s calculation techniques and accounting rules in a debate article in SvD.
A complex web of calculation techniques and accounting rules leads to excessive renovations and large rent increases in the suburbs. Losers will be the low-income earners.
In his article, Stig Westerdahl calls for action and commitment from the Minister of Housing and proposes three initiatives:
1- Abandon the requirements of businesslikeness for Swedish public benefit.
2- Ensure the statutory housing responsibility.
3- Renovate for the residents – not to raise rents.
