Film screening “THE FISH”

The IUR is excited to welcome back former Artist in Residence Karolina Breguła for a screening and discussion of her short film, “The Fish,” on February 7 alongside Professor Helena Filipsson from Lund University. The screening and initial conversation will take place in NI:C0826 from 14.00-15.30, with a mingle on floor 7 afterwards from 15.30-16.30. All are welcome! Text from the filmmaker below:”Open Laboratory of Artist Research is a series of open meetings between artists and scientists specializing in issues related to the sea. Organized by Karolina Breguła and Weronika Fibich, the meetings aim at an antidisciplinary exchange of knowledge, fostering imagination, and encouraging collective reflection to address climate change.
On the 7th of February, Karolina Breguła, an artist and filmmaker and a visiting artist at the Institute for Urban Research in 2023, and Prof. Helena Filipsson from Lund University, assistant head of the Department of Geology, invite participants to an open discussion about unicellular organisms that teach us about the history of the seas, non-human perspectives on planetary experiences, and underwater architecture for fish.
The conversation will be inspired by two short films: “The Fish”* by Karolina Breguła and “Don’t Stress” by Weronika Fibich, along with a short introduction to the research on benthic foraminifera led by Prof. Helena Filipsson.

  • * “The Fish” is a short film about the Bothnian Sea, written in collaboration with a small-scale fisher from Höga Kusten. The script was developed during the artist’s residency at the Institute for Urban Research in 2023.”
