IUR artist-in-residence Helena Fernandez-Cavada will give a seminar titled Methods and Pitfalls in Artistic Investigations.
In this session, I’ll share the questions and interests that have shaped my artistic practice over the years, focusing on form and politics intersections, time appropriations and modes of collaboration which have evolved with different contexts. Since moving to Sweden, I’ve explored alternative narratives of recent Spanish history, connections with the workers’ movement in Sweden, and international solidarity. Recently, my practice has shifted towards the intersection of health and art, exploring more existential questions.
This presentation will highlight 3-4 art projects conducted in urban environments in Malmö, Stockholm, Mexico City, and Spain. These works manifest in a variety of materials and media in order to avoid exportable recipes working globally. Instead, I focus on specific localities and reception conditions, employing different modes of research and manifestation, including drawing, editing, exhibition-making, printed matter, workshops, and diverse collaborations.
