Mikaela Herbert is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Urban Studies. Her research is mainly related to housing, and she has a particular interest in housing informality and urban inequality. In her current research project, she explores the interplay between formal and informal housing practices in northern Sweden, where select places are undergoing rapid economic and social transformation due to large-scale investments in connection to the Green Transition. Her doctoral research, completed in 2023, delved into thehousing challenges faced by Syrian refugees in Sweden post-2015, highlighting issues like informal rental markets and housing precarity.
