Abstract: This seminar presents an ongoing research and collaboration project aimed at setting up and designing communally managed green spaces in slum settlements in Lusaka through participatory action research. Whilst the direct purpose of the project is to enhance slum dwellers’ access to multi-functional green spaces, an overarching aim is to build capacity and mobilise communities to claim their basic right to decent housing and living environments. In the seminar, particular attention will be directed towards the challenges associated with implementing a project built on genuine community participation, and some tentative ideas on how to navigate them.
This seminar is part of the IUR Brown Bag Seminar Series. Bring your lunch! If you have any questions, please contact Defne Kadioglu and Julie Goodrich.
