The Imag(in)ed City: The (Geo)Politics of Nordic Noir’s Televisual Place-Making
- 14:15 - 16:00
- Niagara, B0E07 (Lecture Hall B2), Malmö University
Public lecture by Robert Saunders, Visiting Scholar at the IUR from Farmingdale State College (SUNY).
Drawing on my previously-published analysis of Malmö as an imaginary created by The Bridge and then shifting to my more recent work on the Finnish city of Lappeenranta which serves as the backdrop for the series Bordertown, my presentation will examine the ways in which large, medium-sized, and small urban spaces enter the ‘mind’s eye’ of the global television viewer, and how such screenings impact tourism, trade, identity, and (g)local politics.
This event is part of our Visiting Scholars and Artists in Residence autumn 2019 activities. Please check out the rest of the program here.
