Free to Move Along – The demolition of the Sorgenfri camp in context

Presenter: Maria Persdotter

It has been five years since the over two hundred Romanian Roma were forcefully evicted from the Sorgenfri camp in Malmö – an event which marked an important turning point in the governance of so-called vulnerable EU citizens in Malmö, and in Sweden. In this lecture, Maria Persdotter (Malmö University), will unpack the significance of this event and place it in the context of the racialised and urbanised bordering of present-day Europe. This lecture will be based on Persdotter’s PhD thesis which she recently defended at Roskilde University, and which is available here: https://muep.mau.se/handle/2043/30254
