Welcome to Malmö University for a kick-off meeting of the Nordic Network of Global South Urbanisms (NEGSU)!
Launched earlier this year with a generous Seed Grant from the Institute for Urban Research (IUR), NEGSU was born from the conversations sparked during coffee breaks and exchanges among five researchers from the global South.
The network aims to bring together scholars who are working to rethink the location, theories, and practices of the field of urban studies. By promoting cross-Nordic research and collaboration, our goal is to engage with the global South through an approach that acknowledges historical difference, embodied knowledge, and the existence of a pluriverse of epistemologies. With this, NEGSU highlights the importance of presenting the geographies of the global South in more nuanced and rich ways through, but not limited to, critical, postcolonial, decolonial, and feminist approaches. Read more about our purpose on our LinkedIn page.
In this first meeting we will briefly present the network, share our activities for the Spring, and discuss the possibility of submitting an RJ Research Initiation Grant. The meeting will also be an opportunity to connect with global South-minded scholars in the Öresund region. The network mainly targets researchers located in the Nordic countries but welcomes participants from other parts of the world who are interested in Nordic-global South collaboration or exchange. We welcome scholars in all career stages.
