Inauguration of Svartklubb: an exhibition about Malmö’s underground music scene
Svartklubb is an exhibition about Malmö’s underground music scene from the 1990s until the present. The exhibition discusses the influence the svartklubb scene has had on a city in transformation – where old industrial sites have given way for music and culture within a wider framework than what can be accommodated on the commercial stages or the municipally sanctioned cultural life. It is a combination of oral histories and physical artifacts from some of the organizers who ran the scene, who were part of making Malmö the city it is today.
In connection with the opening, the social anthropologist Anna Gavanas will give a lecture at 18 (in Swedish). Anna Gavanas is a social anthropologist and a writer with focus on, among other things, DJ culture, dance music history, work life, and migration.
The exhibition is produced by students at the master’s programme in urban studies, Malmö University. It is made in collaboration with the Institute for Studies in Malmö’s History and Malmö City Archives.
The exhibition will be presented in Swedish, though there will be materials available in English for those who do not speak Swedish.
