City of Segregation: Housing and Neo-liberalism, Hegemony and Social Movements

  • 15:15 - 17:00
  • LECTURE HALL B2, NIAGARA, MALMÖ UNIVERSITY

Open Urban Seminars

Andrea Gibbons from the University of Salford, UK, explores how racial ideologies have come to play such a key role in property valuation and definitions of community in Los Angeles and the rest of the world. The workings of real estate-led economics and increasing neoliberalisation are highlighted by the hundred-year civil rights struggles of Los Angeles’ residents, and this is as much a story of the ongoing movement for a different vision of housing and justice at the soul of the city.

The lecture will be held in English.
