Simone Vegliò is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Malmö University. He holds a PhD in Geography (King’s College London, 2019) and his research is situated at the intersection of Urban Geography and Political Geography. His current project interrogates contemporary aspects of Latin America’s urbanization; by adopting Buenos Aires’ southern area of Dock Sud as a lens of analysis, his investigation analyzes how Chinese capital is configured in neo-extractive operations and logistic centers activities, investigating the socio-spatial and political impact on the urban environment.
His previous work explored Latin American urbanization from a historical and ‘postcolonial’ perspective. He examined iconic transformations in urban planning and architecture in Buenos Aires, Mexico City and Brasília in relation to key themes such as development, modernity and geopolitical imaginations, thus producing a historical geography that analyzed the projects of naturalization and solidification of the nation state in Latin America (1880-1964). He taught modules in the broad fields of Human Geography and International Relations at King’s College London, University College of London, and Leuphana University.
